One of the most unclear questions in vocal editing.
I have been producing music for 12 years. This is one of the top 5 questions I get asked.
Have you noticed that when you stream your favorite artists music their voice sounds super clean?
It's hard to explain. Like an angelic tone to it. The vocal is bright. It's present. You could even say it sounds crispy...
EQing is one of the toughest concepts to grasp in mixing, so I’ll try to make it as simple as possible. The EQ can do a lot of different things. It can cut out low end for a less defined sound, it can cut out high end to make something sit more in the background, it can also do just about anything else in terms of blending sounds together.
When mixing vocals we should always have an end goal in mind.
What are we looking to do with the vocal? Is there anything the vocal lacks that we can improve? Is there anything we love about the vocal that we would like to accentuate?
Compression is automated volume adjustment. You set the parameters with the attack and decay (when compression will start and stop), how much it will be adjusted via the ratio, and lastly when the incoming signal will trigger the volume adjustment aka the threshold.
