Hi VP fam,
One thing we like to do when mixing vocals in rap and pop music is low cutting.
We do this because it prevents your vocals from conflicting with your kick and bass. We like to leave that bass region for bass sounds only.
We try to cut up to 60hz. Typically we'll cut up to 114hz.
When listening in a good monitoring environment you will be able to hear the difference in the low end when the vocal is low cut vs. not. With your vocal low cut, the low end will sound a lot cleaner and allow your track to hit hard.
